body world bizarre

Gunther von Hagens or Dr.Death as he is more ‘fondly’ known as can help you to preserve your loved one for eternity. Though honestly, if you ask me this process of plastination, where the body parts are chemically treated to (horror) reveal inner anatomical structures, is not only bizarre but sick too. Obviously the German anatomist Gunther von Hagens nor his fans think so, because if they did, his traveling exhibition known as Body Worlds (Körperwelten) of preserved human bodies and body parts, would not have been seen by more than 20 million visitors.

Apparently, all of the human plastinates are willing donors. The original Body Worlds exhibit consisted of about 25 full body plastinates, cased in glass- thankfully! Though, the Body Worlds exhibits are definitely not for the faint-hearted because apart from some really wacky exhibits like a man on horseback holding his brain in one hand, there is also a prenatal wing which has exhibits of unborn fetuses and embryos, some with congenital disorders. No wonder various religious groups and people from all walks of life have protested against such exhibits, which according to them cheapens human life.

In case you are keen to see a Body Worlds exhibition, then you can do so at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester on February 22, 2008, where Body Worlds 4 is scheduled to open.
