I2D, a design based company has come up with a project to encourage the use of olives and the extraction of olive oil, right at home. The DIY concept has made many an olive lover happy as it addresses issues such as usability and mechanical problems as well. The Oil Press allows for a saucer with a duct to be fitted in the main unit. The olives are placed on the saucer and necessary amounts of the fruit get to the grinder. The unit also contains a glass, which collects your freshly extracted olive oil, and the residue can later be segregated. The next time you decide to cook something with olive oil, you know how to get the freshest sample of olive oil!

I once viewed a program on Discovery travel and living that showed the entire process of olive farming and how they extract the oil. this article kinda reminds me of how those guys made the process sound so simple, yet so tough!
BTW i love olives...black or green plus cooking in olive oil may b expensive but is very beneficial 2 health!
I love olives too. have you tried the green ones that are fresh? You gotta eat them. They are so tasty! By the olives are extremely good for health and yeah as you said, very expensive in India. However rajasthan is planning to grow olives on a large scale and that might reduce the prices of olives.
