floris11_2112It’s a good idea to have more furniture if you frequently entertain people at home; but if the living space is small, the room would look cramped if you add more furniture. Now, how would you like the idea of transforming your flooring into functional furniture to solve the problem of space crunch?

Dutch designer Klaartje Daamen has designed Floris, a wood flooring system that doubles up as tables, chairs, and benches when required. This modular system consists of cardboard sandwich paneled tiles finished in MDF then layered with walnut veneer. Polyethylene foam is glued underneath the tiles to provide extra cushion and soundproofing elements. Each tile has a series of hooks and holes on the underside that easily slots together with other tiles, sort of a flat Lego flooring, making it easy to lay and secure on its surface - writes Amara Holstein in dwell.

Now, if you fold up these tiles to convert them into furniture, on what would this furniture rest? I guess that it is presumed that you have an alternate flooring beneath and you are using these modular tiles as functional pieces of furniture which are unfolded to create flooring space to avoid the space crunch.
